A voice changer, also called speech to speech, replays an existing recording in a different voice. Unlike text to speech, it starts from your performance, so the timing, emphasis and emotion stay yours and only the voice changes. It is useful for characters, a consistent channel voice, privacy, or a take with the right delivery but the wrong voice. wawie's voice changer works on recordings, not on live calls or streams.

What you need

How do you change your voice with AI, step by step?

  1. Create a free wawie account: Sign up in your browser, with nothing to install and no card needed. The free plan includes 5,000 one-time credits, enough to convert a few short takes and compare voices. Conversion is billed on the length of the recording, and commercial use starts with Wawie Start.
  2. Record a clean take: Record your lines with any microphone, on a phone or a computer. Perform them with the timing and emotion you want in the final result, because the voice changer keeps your performance and replaces only the voice. One speaker per recording works best.
  3. Open the voice changer: From the side menu of the dashboard, open the voice changer. It needs two things: the recording you want to transform and the voice it should be spoken in. The result keeps the words and timing of your original take, so it still fits the same video.
  4. Upload your recording: Drop your audio file into the upload area, or click it to browse your files. Keep the take as clean as possible, and trim long silences at the start and end before uploading, so you only spend credits on the part you need.
  5. Choose the target voice: Open the voice library, which lists every model's voices in one place. Filter by language, gender, age, accent or category and listen to samples. You can also pick a cloned voice: your own, or one whose owner gave explicit consent. Imitating anyone without permission is prohibited.
  6. Keep background noise removal on: Leave the background noise removal option ticked unless your take was recorded in a silent room. Cleaning the source first stops traffic, hum or room echo from being carried into the converted audio, so the new voice comes out cleaner.
  7. Convert and compare the result: Launch the conversion and listen to the result in the player. The words, pacing and emotion should match your take exactly. If the new voice does not suit the performance, try another target voice on the same recording before re-recording anything.
  8. Download or use it in a video: Download the converted audio from the player. It is also saved in your media library, so you can drag it into a studio project, place it under your video with music and captions, and export the finished edit as an MP4.

Frequently asked questions

What is the difference between a voice changer and text to speech?

Text to speech starts from written text and creates the performance for you. A voice changer starts from a recording and keeps its exact words, pacing and emotion, replacing only the voice. Use text to speech when you have a script, and the voice changer when you already have audio or want to act the lines yourself.

Does wawie's voice changer work in real time?

No. wawie's voice changer works on recordings you upload, not on live audio. It is built for produced content such as videos, podcasts, ads, games and animated characters, rather than live calls or streaming. Record your take, convert it, and use the result in your edit or download it. For live use, a real-time voice changer is a better fit.

Can I make my voice sound like a celebrity or a specific person?

Only with that person's explicit, documented consent. Imitating a real person's voice without permission is prohibited on wawie, whether they are famous or not, and so is creating misleading deepfakes. If you do have consent, the route is voice cloning: clone the voice from a consented sample, then choose it as the target voice in the voice changer.

Which voices can I change into?

You can choose from 1000+ voices in about 30 languages, with male, female and character voices and many accents. The library shows every model's voices in one list, with filters for language, gender, age, accent and category, and a sample to hear before you commit. Your own cloned voices appear there as well.

Can I use the converted audio commercially?

Yes, on a paid plan. From Wawie Start, audio you create from your own recordings is yours to use, including commercially, within the underlying model providers' terms. The free plan is for testing the quality. You remain responsible for the rights to the original recording you upload, and for consent when a real person's voice is involved.
